Freelance Writers Needed for Article Submissions to Our Green Earth

This website is currently under development, it will cover issues such as green energy, new scientific discoveries and environmental issues. I have been pleasantly surprised by the interest I've had from writers so far.

I would like to get people with all types of experience involved. I've put together these guidelines for anyone interested in writing for this site. They are not set in stone, if you want to do something 'out of the box' that's fine.

Suggested Titles – You can write about anything that is related to the issues above, here are a few suggestions:

Content

The length of articles can be as long as you like, a minimum of 500 words would be appreciated.

Writing for the web means capturing people attention, and keeping it. The content should be broken up by short paragraphs and subheadings, with bullet points or lists where appropriate. The Title Should Be Capitalised Like This, and contain at least 5 words. A brief introduction of around 20 words should be included at the top of the page in bold. This will be used as an enticing description for users, and should sum up the article concisely.

The text and images will be converted to HTML by me for best possible search engine traffic.

If you reference other material please include a link, or book reference. Any quotes should be clearly indicated by quotation marks.

If you have images you would like to use in the article, please attach separately to your submission email. These must be images you have permission to use i.e. you have taken yourself, or got permission from the photographer.

You could search free stock photo sites and include a link to an image you would like to be used. If you can’t find a suitable image I will find one and add it to the article. I have used this site for most images so far Free Stock Photos for websites - FreeDigitalPhotos.net.

The Main article image will be cropped to 200x200 pixels, if you don't know how to do this yourself I will do it for you.

I would ask that the article is not published anywhere else on the internet, this avoids duplicate content issues. If at any point you wish to remove your article to be published elsewhere, email me and I will take it down a.s.a.p.

Articles can be submitted as a Word 2003 document attachment, or simply as email text. The address to send submissions to is tom@ourgreenearth.co.uk

Payment

There is a prize of £20 for the best article out of every 50 submissions. This will be judged on visitors reactions, and quality of writing. My own articles will be excluded from the competition. I know it sounds like a lame amount of money, but if the site does well this will increase.

All other submissions over 500 words are eligible for the prize, so writers with many articles may stand a better chance of winning. The payment will be made by Paypal or a Cheque, depending on the writers preference. If the site is successful, writers who have produced great work may be asked to write on a paid basis.

Your Profile/Links

If you would like some text about yourself please provide it at the bottom of the article. The profile should be up to 40 words. I would like to have an image of all writers, please send this as a JPEG and attach separately to an email. If you really don't want to put an image of yourself, please send an image you would like in its place. Profile images will be cropped to 150x150 pixels, if you don't know how to do this yourself I will do it for you.

You can provide a link to your website, if so include the full address i.e. http://www.example.com and what words you would like at the anchor text. I imagine most writers would want something like ‘freelance writer’ in the anchor text for SEO purposes. I will only link to websites that are currently online and working.

I will also put a clickable email link on the page if you like, although as with any website, this may result in some spam emails. Writers without a website of their own may prefer this option.
